Being overweight

Believe it or not, around 7 out of 10 persons are overweight.  This information points to the United States only, a testament to how prevalent the situation really is.

Are you one of those 7 individuals?  How do you discern you're obese?

Basically, the standard gauge when it comes to one's perfect weight is a formula labeled the body mass index, or BMI.  The formula is quite plain: the individual's weight (in kilograms) divided by the square root of the individual's height (in meters) equals the subject's BMI.

Simply, a BMI of about 22 to 25 denotes the person is within his preferred weight range.

A BMI of 25 to 29.9 would mean that the individual is overweight.

And a BMI of 30 or above means that the subject is obese.

The body mass index is the most exact and commonly acceptable barometer of being overweight or obese.  Many organizations refer to this figure in determining the existence of the condition as well as deciphering the hints it carries.

The BMI should by no means be neglected.  Being overweight poses several health perils, and most of them can be fatal.

Being overweight will also make you more likely to obtain cancer. Breast, esophageal, colorectal, liver, gallbladder, pancreatic, stomach, and prostate cancers are always associated with the condition.

Musculoskeletal difficulties are also to be anticipated.  Backaches caused by the weight to be contained, osteoarthritis brought about by the destabilized bones, and gout because of the unhealthy diet that triggers the condition of being obese are just some of the physical discomforts that are most probable to be suffered.
