The Benefits of Eating Alfalfa

Alfalfa, which is a perennial herb, has a long list of dietary and medicinal uses and research has proven that Alfalfa might lower blood levels of cholesterol and glucose. Many take Alfalfa supplements orally and is has been proven safe apart from a small percentage of people where it created lupus like symptoms. The problem only happens if you eat the seeds and sprouts and it's because of an amino acid called L-canavanine. Luckily the leaves don't contain this substance.  Overall Alfalfa is healthy.

If you suffer from swelling and fluid retention you might want to take Alfalfa as this is what the Chinese have been doing since the 6th century. The Arabs were the first to find Alfalfa and they named it "the father of all foods." If you take the leaves you will enjoy the benefits of a number of vitamins and minerals, including potassium, calcium, magnesium, and carotene.

Not only does it help as a diuretic it's also great as a laxative. It also works well for urinary tract infections, and kidney, bladder and prostrate disorders. The latest and greatest discovery of Alfalfa is the benefits that it might offer for the reduction of cholesterol because there are certain agents in Alfalfa that stick to cholesterol which keeps it from remaining in the blood stream.

You don't need to take Alfalfa in a pill form because you can quite happily eat it. All you need to do is add some to your salad.  Eating healthy is also important for natural skin care.

Do you like to drink different types of tea?  If you like drinking herbal teas then all you need to do is add some leaves to hot water and allow it to steep, then enjoy. If you wish you can even spray some of this tea on your plants such as Delphiniums and Irises. You can also create a mulch with Alfalfa which you can then put out into your garden.
